The Friendship Scoreboard No One Talks About

Image
"I was happy for them. So why did a part of me feel disappointed in myself?" It's a question many of us have asked but rarely admit out loud. We often think of competition as something loud—played out on sports fields, announced through exam rankings, or celebrated with medals and promotions. It has winners, losers, and visible finish lines. But there is another kind of competition. It lives in quieter spaces. It hides behind congratulatory messages, carefully worded compliments, and smiles that conceal silent comparisons. It exists not between strangers, but between people who genuinely care about each other. Sometimes, the hardest competition isn't against an enemy. It's against a friend. A Morning That Said Everything I remember meeting three friends for lunch after years apart. We exchanged updates about our lives—jobs, relationships, hobbies, and small victories. The conversation flowed easily until one friend casually mentioned receiving a promotion. Almost ...

When "Being Busy" Became My Coping Mechanism

Sometimes, staying busy feels easier than sitting with yourself. There's a strange comfort in always having something to do: a to-do list waiting to be checked off, a calendar full of deadlines, messages to reply to, assignments to finish, people to meet, places to be. Because as long as we're moving, we don't have to stop. And as long as we don't stop, we don't have to feel. Somewhere along the way I realized I wasn't staying busy because I had so much to do. Some heartbreaks don't come from romance. They come from friendship. Chapter One: Before We Became Strangers I still remember the first person I wanted to tell everything to. The one I'd text the moment something exciting happened. The one who knew every inside joke. Every fear. Every dream. Every version of me. And then one day... I realized we hadn't spoken in weeks. Not because we fought. Not because something terrible happened. We just... stopped. The conversations became shorter. The replies became slower. The plans became "sometime." Until "sometime" quietly turned into never. And somehow, the person who once knew everything about me became someone who knew almost nothing at all. We never perform goodbyes in neat, ceremonial ways. They arrive disguised as ordinary evenings, quick messages, or an awkward silence that we shove into the pockets of our lives and forget. The last conversation with a friend—the one you...
